Getting started

How do I get started?

Fill out the short form on our contact page. Tell us what you need help with, and we’ll reply with next steps and a price. Once you’re a client, we’ll invite you to our secure client portal to upload your documents.

How do I send my documents?

Whichever way is easiest for you:

  • Upload them to our secure client portal. We set up your account and send you an invitation.
  • Email them to info@thetaxoffice.us
  • Bring them to an in-person appointment
  • Drop them off at the office

For documents with Social Security numbers or bank details, we recommend the client portal. It’s encrypted from end to end. Please don’t put sensitive information in the website contact form.

What documents do I need?

It depends on your situation. A typical individual return needs:

  • Last year’s tax return
  • W-2s and any 1099s (interest, dividends, contract work, retirement)
  • Form 1098 for mortgage interest, and 1098-T for tuition
  • Childcare costs and the provider’s tax ID, if you have dependents
  • Health insurance Form 1095-A, if you bought coverage through the Marketplace

For a business, add your income and expense records and any payroll reports. We’ll send you a checklist for your specific situation.

Do I need to come into the office?

No. You can work with us four ways:

  • Online, through our secure client portal
  • By email
  • In person, by appointment
  • Drop off your paperwork

We’re by appointment only. Call or text (904) 577-0086 to set up a time, including for drop-offs. The office is at 6817 Southpoint Parkway, Suite 1601, Jacksonville.

How long does it take?

It depends mostly on when we have complete documents. We’ll give you a timeline along with your quote, and let you know right away if anything is missing.

Pricing

How much does tax preparation cost?
  • Individual returns: from $250
  • Sole proprietor or single-member LLC (Schedule C): from $400
  • Partnership or multi-member LLC: from $300 per partner
  • S corporation: from $1,200
  • Tax planning: from $750
  • One-on-one consultation: $250 per hour

Prior-year returns, estates, trusts and business formation are quoted based on scope. You’ll always know the price before we start.

Why do prices start at a minimum?

Returns vary. A single W-2 takes less work than a return with rental property, stock sales, or several income sources. We quote your specific return upfront so there’s nothing unexpected.

Your situation

I haven’t filed in years. Can you help?

Yes. We’ll pull your IRS wage and income transcripts to see what was reported, prepare each missing year, and explain what you owe and why. Filing late is almost always better than not filing.

I got a letter from the IRS. What should I do?

Don’t ignore it. Most letters have a response deadline. Get in touch and we’ll help you understand what the letter means and what to do next. If your situation needs formal IRS representation, we’ll tell you and refer you to the right professional.

When are taxes due?

For most people, individual returns are due April 15. Partnership and S corporation returns are due March 15 for calendar-year businesses. If a date falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.

An extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. Any tax owed is still due by the original deadline.

Can you help me form an LLC or become an S corporation?

Yes. We can file your Florida LLC, get your EIN, file the S corporation election, and set up the tax side properly. We’ll also tell you honestly whether an S corporation makes sense at your income level.

Do you work with clients outside Jacksonville?

Yes. We work with clients nationwide and overseas, including military families who move often. Everything can be handled online, so you never need to visit. Get in touch and tell us where you are.
